As of this writing, 15 people have been infected with the Zika virus in a small community just north Miami, Fla., raising questions about travel to the state. The Zika virus has been associated with the severe birth defect known as microcephaly, in which babies are born with smaller than normal heads, contributing to a variety of serious physical and developmental issues.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued travel warnings for pregnant women and their partners, advising against traveling to that particular area.
What do we know about Zika? What are the risks? What are the implications for Philadelphia and the greater Delaware Valley?
