Einstein Hosts Continuing Medical Education Liver Conference

The latest developments in the management of liver disease were presented at a Continuing Medical Education conference sponsored by Einstein Healthcare Network on Saturday, December 3. A record number of participants reviewed research and treatment advances, originally reported in November at The Liver Meeting®, an annual conference presented by the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD).

The Einstein conference attracted more than 175 practitioners from the tri-state arearanging from gastroenterologists, hepatologists and surgeons to non-physician clinicians and nurses—involved in the care of patients with liver disease. Participants were greeted by Barry R. Freedman, Einstein President and CEO; Victor J. Navarro, MD, Co-Chair, Department of Transplantation; and Simona Rossi, MD, Associate Chair, Division of Hepatology. The symposium provided a course overview, nine faculty presentations, and interactive question-and-answer sessions.

Are Supplements Safe? Some Are—But Some Are Dangerous

Nearly seven out of 10 Americans take dietary supplements of one kind or another. Most believe they're safe and that they do what it says they do on the label.

These assumptions could be wrong—in some cases, dangerously wrong.

We asked Victor Navarro, MD, medical chair in the Department of Transplantation, and a recent guest speaker at Philadelphia Magazine's Thinkfest, to weigh in on the subject.

1.) A 2015 consumer survey suggests 68 percent of U.S. adults take dietary supplements, and that 84 percent are confident that they’re safe, effective and of high quality. Do you believe their confidence is misplaced?
